This year, Sabah Tshung Tsin Alumni Association (STTAA) hosted its Alumni Gala Dinner cum Tshung Tsin Ren Spirit Awards on 10th July 2016 at the Sabah Hakka Banquet Hall, Tanjung Lipat, Kota Kinabalu.. Amongst the 460 people who attended the dinner were the founder of Sabah Tshung Tsin Alumni Association who was also the first chairman of the Association, Tan Sri Joseph Lo, the Chairman of the Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School’s Board of Governors, Datuk Jimmy Yong, the Chairman of the Institute Sinaran’s Board of Govenors, Mr. Fong Tet Kong, the school principal, Mr. Hiew Hoh Shin and the other honourable guests such as Datuk Nancy Ho, the school’s board members and the Institute Sinaran’s Board Members.
Serena Liew, the Organising Chairperson of the event cum the president of STTAA expressed her sincere appreciation to all Tshung Tsin Ren in supporting the events especially the sponsors for retired teachers, teachers and staff and 20 students from Senior 3 classes. The other expenses of the event for instance the trophies for the Tshung Tsin Ren Awards and wines were also sponsored by the alumni:
The main highlight of the event was the presentation of five awards to deserving Alumni of Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School that contributed significant roles to the society while promoting the true spirit of Tshung Tsin. The Tshung Tsin Ren Spirit Awards were presented to:
1.,Dr. Liew Houng Bang graduated from STTSS in 1986
-consultant cardiologist, head of cardiology of QEH II Kota Kinabalu
-three-time winner of Excellent Service Award (annugerah Perkhidmatan Cemerlang) awarded by Sabah State Health Department, MoH, Malaysia in 2000, 2010 and 2015
-supervisor/assessor for Ministry of Health Advanced Diploma for Cardiovascular Healthcare for cardiovascular technologist and nurses (2014-present)
2.Dr. Cheong Yee Tshing graduated from STTSS in 1986 born in Papar, Sabah
-Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Reproductive Medicine and Infertility Specialist
-Excellent Service Award (Anugerah Perkhidmatan Cemerlang) QEH 2002
-Excellent Service Award (Anugerah Perkhidmatan Cemerlang) Hospital Likas 2007
-Excellent Service Award (Anugerah Perkhidmatan Cemerlang) Hospital Likas 2011
-Outstanding Women’s Award (Professional Category) Sabah Women’s Association, 2015
3. Ar. Cheong Kok Ann graduated from Tshung Tsin Secondary School in 1983
– Founding Organising Committee of Kota Kinabalu International Jazz Festival SPArKS (Society of Performing Arts Kota Kinabalu Sabah)
-International achievement in Music: In 2011, he was the lead artist of pop jazz of a band called Jackfruit as the 1st Malaysian Band invited to perform in 10th Nanjing Jazz & World Music Festival
– Achievement in Arts and Design: He was the designer and project architect for RUMAH TERBALIK which was counted officially in the Malaysia Guniness Book of Records
4. Ms. Theresa Tham
-Co-founded “SponsorAVillage” together with her brother, Philip Tham and their cousin Edward, to support the education of children in remote Malaysian schools through the Room to Read and Write Program; to create opportunities for students in remote villages to acquire the necessary English competency they need to get jobs in cities or to continue their education.
-started in schools in Tenom, Sabah
5. Mr. Ryan Kow Hong Yee graduated from STTSS in 2008
– Undergraduate in civil and structural engineering at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
– Involved in the construction of Mass Transit Rail (MTR) and bridge design in HK
– Appointed as one of the Protégé by the HKIE President in 2015/2016
– Co-founder of the Y-Talk.org aiming to build a new social platform to connect people’s life stories
– Outstanding student award 2008 and the Board of Governors Chairman Award 2008
